Rapid charging connectors.

CCS and CHAdeMO are two of the rapid charging connectors (found on the end of a rapid charge point’s cable) for electric vehicles (EVs) found at Osprey Charging stations. Understanding the differences between these two connectors can be helpful for EV owners and those considering purchasing an electric car.

Both the CCS and CHAdeMo connectors support rapid charging, which can add up to 100 miles of range in just 15-20 minutes. This is ideal for those who need to quickly top up the battery during a long journey or for those who want to quickly add charge to their vehicle when time is of the essence.

CCS (Combined Charging System).

The CCS connector is the standard in continental Europe, the United Kingdom, and other parts of the world. It combines both the AC and DC charging connectors into one plug, making it a convenient option for EV owners and manufacturers.

The CCS connectors are compatible with the vast majority of rapid-charging electric vehicles (EVs) available in the market. Some of the popular EVs that support CCS connectors are the Jaguar I-PACE, Volkswagen ID.3, and the Kia e-Niro.

CHAdeMO.

CHAdeMO, which stands for “Charge de Move”, is a charging connector widely used in Japan, Asia, and other parts of the world.

CHAdeMO is typically used by Nissan Leafs as well as a handful of earlier model EVs but is no longer commonly found on new electric vehicles. In the UK, the 2025 Nissan Leaf model will be fitted with a CCS charging port.
